I've actually worked Obsidian into my routine a little bit at work, and it's actually managed to stick around the longest so far, while Notion and my Remarkable tablet seems to handle my personal notes. I can't even remember what prompted me to export everything I had off of there to somewhere else, probably a pricing or policy change or something, I just stopped caring about it. That's how it went with Evernote for the most part. I can go for a week, maybe a month of using these things, but then at some point either I get too busy and don't have the time, or there's a lull and there's nothing to add or do on these things, so my use stagnates and I just stop using them altogether. but it's hard to keep up with a routine that involves these apps. In my head, I love the idea of these kinds of apps, to have a persistent digital assistant that I can use to track anything and everything in my life in one centralized location so that I never lose anything and I have all my life goals planned out that I'm working towards and everything would be so much better. Microsoft makes a killing off of Office 365 and their enterprise offerings like that.Įvernote was one of the hundred or so note-taking/task management/productivity apps I've tried over the years that I just couldn't get into. Amazon makes most of their money on AWS, again another money printer. We're all consuming streaming TV, movies, music, even games.īut past that I'm going to make a hasty assumption that you meant something like Google, whose main moneymaker is a combination of search and an ad platform they control (on both the supply and demand sides too), which prints an unlimited amount of money they can use to fund other ventures, until it dries up, and then they'll have to adapt. Self-driving cars are being used every day. The last few years have seen the release of several large short-form video platforms (TikTok, Instagram Reels, Youtube Shorts) that have gained a ton of traction. All of the big players have been improving and releasing their large language models (e.g. Apple is putting out an insane (and insanely priced) VR headset, Oculus/Meta has been putting out low cost headsets for years. The recent string of crypto companies I hesitate to count as big tech, but are adjacent enough that I'll include FTX and Binance. Uber is pretty successful in certain respects, but also has reported massive financial losses every year since its inception. Twitter was near-profitable before the buyout by Elon Musk, and has seen its valuation cut heavily - the same with Reddit's valuation by Fidelity come to think of it. Snapchat's stock price has been reduced to a tenth of what it was during the pandemic, and are likely dead in the water unless they find a hail mary. IBM has been seen as stagnant for years, and in my opinion, only bolstered by enterprise lock-in and sales tactics. Nortel Networks was one of the largest telecom manufacturers in the world until they went bankrupt in 2009. Off the top of my head, Research In Motion, former makers of the BlackBerry, is a recent one whose sales and share of the market have plummeted to a shadow of their self. There have been large tech companies that have failed, and a few more that are on the Evernote stagnation path. You'll have to define "big tech", and "cool" to get a good answer to that. I use both apps in different contexts - Logseq for work notes, Obsidian as a personal wiki - because they both have different strengths. They also have an excellent canvas feature, something that is IMO sorely missing in Logseq. They also heavily rely on their rich plugin ecosystem. Your organize your stuff how you see fit. It can't really work as an outliner, and is not opinionated at all. Obsidian is truly a note taking app, their base unit of information are pages. Its kinda weird to explain, but it works well if you get their workflow. Each dedicated page, even when empty, will then display those linked/tagged blocks and all their descendants. Their UI is built around that, and they heavily nudge users to just dump data in daily notes with links and tags. Logseq is an outliner - each line is a bullet point, a "block", and blocks are their base unit of information. They have different goals and means to achieve them, and while there's certainly an overlap of features and users, they truly can't be called equivalent.

There are cool options for nearly all types of roof coverings. There are many types of roof systems available, but the surface solar reflectance of the roofing product-the outermost layer of the roof exposed to the sun is, also known as the roof covering-determines whether the roof is cool or not. That is, absorbing less sunlight at the roof reduces heat conduction into the building, increasing the need for mechanical heating in winter. Both use mirrors that tilt by +12 and -12 degrees for white and black, but TI recently unveiled a new 0.47-inch 4K-capable DMD with +/-17 degrees of tilt, which should enhance both brightness and contrast.ĭLP projector makers include LG, Optoma, LG, BenQ and Panasonic. Those tilt either toward the light source (on) or away from it (off) at up to 5,000 times per second.īudget projectors like BenQ’s HT3550i use TI’s 0.47-inch DMD, while higher end models, like the Samsung Premium LSP9T use the 0.66-inch chip. The heart of the tech is an optical semiconductor called a digital micromirror device (DMD) that contains millions of aluminum mirrors. Most projector manufacturers now use DLPs, or digital light processing units, manufactured nearly exclusively by Texas Instruments (TI). This buying guide will help you with everything you need to understand before purchasing the best projector for your needs within your budget. There are also a lot of terms to understand, like lens shift, LCD vs. There are a lot of different types of projectors, though, ranging from ultra-short-throw to portable to long-throw. That’s around the same price and over double the size of a decent 65-inch TV, giving you something close to true movie theater immersion with a home theater projector. Better still, you can now get 4K HDR models that can project an image size up to 150-inches for as little as $1,000. Recently we’ve seen models bright enough to use in a normal room, short-throw models that take up very little space and have built-in sound bars, and better picture quality than ever with 4K and Dolby Vision features. Projectors are, increasingly, the best option for those who want a true, big-screen viewing experience that almost rivals sitting in a movie theater. Importantly, they also deliver a picture size you could never get on a standard TV (without spending a fortune at least) and with stellar image quality. They’re brighter, sharper, more compact and easier than ever to install. Home theater projectors have come a long way from the clunky, dim models of the past. Before you know it, you're ready to take on any art project. If you're feeling up for a challenge, why not try a 30-day drawing challenge? Don't worry or feel frustrated. Sketching takes practice, but it is a skill that anyone can learn with time and patience.

Tomatoes on the other hand could be pruned and grown vertically as close as 1 square foot, however allowing for 1 per every 4 squares is best. Those will require at least 4 squares for 1 plant and should be trained outside of the growing area. Last, there are some vegetables that take up a lot of space like pumpkins for example. See the square foot planting placement example below. Next, plants are sown or transplanted into each 1×1 square in multiples of 1, 2, 4, 9, or 16 depending on the crop. Square foot gardening is a great way to maximize the space in your garden and ensure that you are growing a diverse and abundant harvest. Finally, After building the template, you can then decide which vegetables or plants you want to grow in each square and plant by making a placement plan according to the square foot gardening chart below. This creates a grid that allows you to easily plan and plant your garden, ensuring that each square foot is used efficiently. This produces a square foot garden template to begin working with. You don't want to plant too close to the house, other plants, rooflines, or overhead utility lines. ( Find your zone here.)įinally, consider the mature height and width of a plant, especially for shrubs and trees. Plants that love shade will fry in the sun, and sun-lovers will get leggy and will not bloom well without enough sun.Īlso, be sure to choose a perennial, shrub or tree that can survive winters in your USDA Hardiness Zone. You simply can't cheat on this! Read the plant tags and descriptions when shopping so you'll know what each plant needs. For starters, that means giving it the correct sun exposure: Full sun is considered 6 or more hours per day, and partial sun is about half that. The most important thing to remember when you're creating a garden is to use the right plant in the right place. If you're starting from scratch (or redesigning an existing garden), we've got garden layout ideas that work for a variety of settings from containers on tiny decks and balconies to big, sprawling back yards.
